The footer floats just under the 'content', so since you have a short content area vertically on the home page the footer floats where it is. You could add margin or padding as desired to move it down, but remember that there are many varying screen heights and devices to think about, not just the one you are currently viewing your site from. The other pages are longer than a typical screen, so the vertical scroll bar appears and one has to scroll to see the rest of the page.
